Lt. bill crates (RET) rides in a parade

The Rocky River Police Department Motor Patrol was started in 2006 and includes two Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycles specially equipped for police service including lights and siren, RADAR, police radio, and a Mobile Data Terminal.

Officers assigned to the Motor Patrol ride in addition to their regular police duties. They must complete an eighty hour class that includes slow speed maneuvering, curve negotiation, basic motorcycle maintenance, defensive driving, and law enforcement operation techniques.

The Motor Patrol is primarily used for traffic enforcement and parade or special event escort services. However, motorcycles are a valuable asset to the Department because they can move quickly through congested traffic and have the ability to go where cars can't.
